As part of our anniversary celebration, Landmarks45 invites you to help us build a comprehensive chronology of the past 45 years of NYC preservation history. We’ve created the New York City Historic Preservation Wiki, a community-driven project where you can mark the dates of events, designations, and demolitions, add further detail to descriptions, and alert us to names and campaigns that we may have missed.
To get started, we’ve included a basic year-by-year timeline of preservation history with verified dates and major events – designations, demolitions, and more. This chronology is meant to be used as a reference tool and a guide, but we need your help to flesh it out with the details and eyewitness accounts that make history so exciting.
Anyone can contribute text to the Preservation Wiki. There’s no need to register or create an account. To contribute, first go to the wiki and use the sidebar links to find the time period you’re interested in. Once you’re on the page you’d like to edit, click the “edit” link on the upper right hand corner of the page. Type in your changes and click the “save” button at the bottom. Your edits should appear immediately!
